Patsy Knight currently serves District 97, as a full-time legislator, committed to the families and people living in Dorchester and Colleton counties. Her understanding of the political process and her ability to solve problems stemming from her current position, and as Dorchester County Treasurer has served her well. During her tenure as County Treasurer, she took the innovative steps to move the office from manual to a digital electronic process, which ultimately saved taxpayers’ time and money thus a more efficient system. Her innovative thinking became a model for County Treasurers across the state.
Upon the request of Governor Mark Sanford, Patsy worked with South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Director, Marcia Adams, to bring successful effort to modernize both offices and make it more efficient and effective for all South Carolinians. Their efforts created a one-stop-shop ability for residents to pay vehicles taxes, receive their county tax receipt and DMV decal and registration in an efficient process.
Patsy remains a humbled and committed public servant, who understands that leaders must put the needs of people above anything else. Her views on public service are grounded in her commitment to family, church, and community. She continues to take a commonsense and practical approach to find the solutions to our challenges.
Patsy remains committed to her district, throughout the communities and region she understands that government must be limited and focused on the needs of the people, and not any personal ambitions or wants. She learned these lessons from her parents, and they are lessons that she has passed down to her family.
Patsy lives by her motto, “We must all work together to move District 97 forward as well as South Carolina”.
